Dr. Megan Turner-Cabrera
She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the San Diego State University and postdoctoral training at Reedley College. Her dissertation and focus of research studied the effects of trauma in adolescence and how to utilize alternative methods of treatment within diverse populations specifically focusing on creative arts therapies to provide trauma informed care. She is also certified in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International.
In her practice, she strives to build authentic, raw, and trusting relationships with her clients. She works to understand each client’s unique multicultural identities and values by drawing from their life experiences to help them build agency and confidence to start living the life that is aligned with their value system. She pulls from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Strength Based Interventions to help meet her clients where they are at.
Megan is passionate about reaching a wide audience of moms and birthing people to help them build tolerance for their day to day, recognize patterns of generational healing, build community, and recognize they are in fact “not three people” to aid in the transition to motherhood. Outside of the therapy room, she loves to work on this mission through her social media and as co-host of Millennial Pause to be debuting soon. She is also passionate about giving back to the field of psychology through supervision and training. She lives in the East Bay with her family where she loves to explore the Bay Area and surrounding areas especially the parks, zoos, and aquariums with her two children. She is a wannabe yelp foodie, loves to dance, cook, see musicals, and watch true crime and reality tv shows.
Megan is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY29534) who specializes in perinatal mental health, survivors of sexual and domestic violence and concerns around substance use. She is especially passionate about the intersection of cultural humility and generational trauma in support of generational healing within pregnant and postpartum parents and their transition to motherhood.
After completing her undergraduate degree at San Francisco State University, she received her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, where she trained in settings such as the Santa Anita Family Services and the Family Recovery Center.
