Dr. Kelly Showen
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Kelly, a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY35288) specializing in maternal mental health, anxiety and depression, OCD, and navigating life transitions.
As a mom of one adorable and sassy little girl, I know how special–and how all-consuming–this season of life can feel. Motherhood rocks your world, and it can take a while to find your groove. In therapy, my goal is to help you find your “new normal” and live a life that feels rich, full, and consistent with your values.
In our work together, I aim to help you figure out what you want, identify obstacles, and determine how to effectively overcome them. I want you to feel less alone in this journey and more confident in your new identity and all that you have to offer. I practice from an integrative approach that emphasises both facilitating insight and learning tangible skills when indicated. The two therapeutic modalities that most heavily inform my approach are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As a therapist, I am warm, pragmatic, flexible, down to earth, and (hopefully) funny on occasion.
After completing my undergraduate degree at Stanford University, I received my Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium, where I trained in settings including the San Francisco VA, community mental health, and college counseling. I then completed my post-doctoral fellowship at Pacific Anxiety Group, where I focused on treatment of anxiety, OCD, and maternal mental health concerns. In addition to working with moms, I particularly enjoy working with medical trainees and young women navigating post-college life transitions.
Outside of the therapy room, you’ll find me chasing my toddler around, enjoying walks and coffee dates with girlfriends, and exploring the outdoor beauty that the Bay Area has to offer. I am delighted to welcome you to my practice and look forward to creating meaningful change together.
